Dazzling City

This tune is the beginning of the "Game Pop 2" and I find it has a similar feature to "Game Nostalgia", the first track of the "Game Pop".

"Game Nostalgia" was made with only 4 tones, and "Dazzling City" was made with only a 4-bar basic phrase. I considered how I let these simple materials live.

Although in the same gorgeous night city, views would be changed by locations or neon signs turning - that's what I wanted to express.

So I varied repeats of the same phrase with the arrangement.

Let's imagine ancient civilization; there would be ancient buildings, a strong wind blowing, a bright sun glaring, and so on.

I tried to consider these elements while composing this tune.

About the melody, I wasn't conscious of a specific ethnic scale, but I chose the one that I felt exotic and bright.

I think it was a good idea that I took a sinthesizer's tone that would remind us of a sandstorm in the chord part.

I was drawing in my heart a wonderful green scene that has a comfortable breeze, sunlight and the sound of a stream while making this tune.

The style of my works often uses modulation, so there tend to be many sharp(♯) and flat(♭), but this tune begins in rare C major without sharp or flat.

But, the modulation appears a little in this tune as well, so if there were a contest for 'Who's the least user of modulation?',

I would be prohibited to participate in it, I think. (It's funny, isn't it?)

To express a strange sense, I aimed to make composition hard to know what comes next, so this tune has longer phrases than other tunes.

I think I could comparatively write it without suffering, but I was confused about the title; I couldn't think of anything cool.

The person who saved me from this pinch was my mother. She suggested the title, thanks mom!

Twilight Flight

I've really wanted to express 'Twilight Flight', and this tune was born.

What does the word 'Twilight' remind of you?

For me, this word is beautiful and a little sad, it was so charming, so I tried various ways to make the melody like that.

In many cases of my tunes, I put weight on the melody, and luckily I found the synthesizer tone (especially the beginning and the end) fitted well to the image of the melody.

The encounter with tones like that always gives me a special delight and I really appreciate the sound designer who created the synth tone!

Big Bang

At first, I tried to make this tune as a sequel of the "Space Shooter", which is a kind of space series, and I didn't think of Big Bang as a theme.

I don't remember clearly, but I suppose I thought of a situation like an emergency of a spaceship which seems to appear in movies.

While I write my tunes, I usually arrange a repeat part at the beginning, and then do everything.

When I finished to arrange the repeat part, I felt this tune expresses something grand rather than panic,

so in the end of finishing the arrangement, I was conscious of the Big Bang as the theme and tried to express a scene in which many objects run into space and unknown feelings.

I firstly got a keyword, 'The Galaxy is alone', when I combined the expression that also appeared on "Traveling Starry Sky" with a certain melody.

I thought of the Galaxy's loneliness that watches numberless of birth and death and that must exist eternally, so this tune has a little sad emotion.

Since I wanted to express the immensity of the universe, I made efforts to use reverb more effectively in the recording, but I feel there's still space to improve that more. So I'll study harder and want to do better!

The reason why the ending repeats and fades out is the metaphor that the Galaxy continues permanently.

Mysterious Fractions

The "fraction" of the title means the time of music, like three-quarter time (3/4) or six-eighth time (6/8).

While I originally thought I could write a kind of strange tune, I got an idea of the drum's phrase at about 0 minute and 59 seconds of this tune.

The phrase appears in five-quarter time, and I thought, "It may be interesting if five time suddenly appears after appearing three time repeatedly." , so I tried to write a tune in which various time appear.

To vitalize only a one bar-phrase, I struggled to write the rest of 47 bars of the tune, but I feel that we could do our best when we get a bright idea.

I presume this strange tune might be not a taste of some of you, but I want to try variously in making my tunes from now as well, I think.

Space Dance

I comparatively like rhythm play, so I shifted the position of snare shots in this tune and fortunately the melody suited it.

I first thought of the theme 'Space Rock', so I selected electric guitar sounds.

But I felt the rhythm above made a light feeling as if we had floated in space, so I tried to make a 'Dance' atmosphere rather than rock.

There are a lot of space-like tones in the synthesizer, so I enjoyed choosing which tones I should use. I hope you will also enjoy various space sounds!

Walk In The Sky(Rocket Belt's Dream)

Do you know "rocket belt"?

I knew it from a video game and I was so interested in it. (Though I suppose I'm scared to try it in reality..)

There are some things that emphasize the funny side of rocket belts on the Internet, but the video game I played was so beautiful and a Smithsonian's article about it inspired me, so I tried to write this tune cool and moving.

And in terms of the arrangement, in the video game, synthesizer's tones like human voices and bouncy rhythms were used effectively, so I also took them in this tune as a homage.

Enjoy imaginary walking in the sky freely!

Dazzling City

この曲は"Game Pop 2"の始まりの曲ですが、"Game Pop"の始まりの曲である"Game Nostalgia"とちょっとした共通点があることに気がつきました。

"Game Nostalgia"は4音のみで作られていますが、"Dazzling City"は４小節からなる１つのフレーズを基に作られています。シンプルな素材をどう生かすか試行錯誤しました。

同じ一つのきらびやかな夜の街でも、角度を変えて眺めてみたり、ネオンサインが変化すると様子が違って見える―といった状態を、同じフレーズの繰り返しでも、編曲で変化をつけていくことで表現しています。

古代文明を想像してみると、古代の建造物、強い風が吹く様、太陽がぎらつく感じなどが浮かびます。

これらの要素を考えながら、この曲を作りました。

メロディに関しては、特定の民族音階は意識しませんでしたが、エキゾチックで光り輝いているように感じたメロディを採用しました。

和音のパートに砂嵐を思わせるようなシンセサイザーの音色を用いることができたのが良かったと思います。

そよ風や陽射しが心地よく、緑豊かで小川のせせらぎの音が聞こえてきそうな情景を思い浮かべながら作りました。

私はもともと転調をよく用いることを作風としていることもあり、シャープ(#)やフラット(♭)が多くなりがちなのですが、この曲は珍しくシャープやフラットの無いCメジャー（ハ長調）から始まります。

とはいえ、ところどころで部分的に転調しており、もしどこかで「転調を行わない作曲家コンテスト」のようなものが開催されたら、私は出場禁止になってしまう..(笑)と感じる今日この頃です。

奇妙な感じを出すために、次に何が来るかわからない構成を目指しました。他の曲に比べてフレーズが長いのはそのためです。

曲作りは比較的苦しまずにできたのですが、タイトルで悩みました・・・かっこいいものがなかなか思いつきませんでした。

"Unidentified"を提案してくれたのは母でした。母のおかげでピンチから救われました！

"黄昏飛行"というテーマでどうしても作ってみたくて出来上がった曲です。

"黄昏"（という言葉）からみなさんは何を想起されますか？

私にとっては "黄昏＝美しくて少し物悲しい感じ" でしたので、そのようなメロディになるように努力しました。

私は多くの曲でメロディに重点を置いているのですが、この曲の冒頭と最後の部分で使われているシンセサイザーの音色がメロディのイメージに特にぴったりでした。

このような音色との出会いには格別の喜びを感じますし、この音色をお創りになった開発者さんに畏敬の念を感じています！

最初は"Space Shooter"の続編として、宇宙系ではあるものの、ビッグバンとは別のテーマで作ろうとしていました。

あまり覚えていないのですが、たしか宇宙船の緊急事態のような、映画に出てきそうなシチュエーションを想定していました。

曲を作るときは、全体を通して編曲するよりは、繰り返しの部分から編曲することが多いのですが、出来上がりを見てパニック状態よりは何かどんと構えた感じを受けたので、全体を仕上げる際にはビッグバンを意識して、様々な物体が宇宙空間を駆け抜ける感じや未知の感じを出そうとしました。

このタイトルの "fraction" とは分数のことで、音楽の６/８拍子や３/４拍子などの拍子を表しています。

もともと風変わりな曲を作りたいと考えていた際に、０分５９秒のあたりのドラムのフレーズを思いつきました。

このフレーズの箇所は５/４拍子なのですが、「３拍子が続いた後にいきなり５拍子になったら面白いかな？」などと考えながら、様々な拍子を混ぜた曲を作ることにしました。

たった１小節のフレーズを生かすために残りの４７小節を考える形となりましたが、ピンとくるアイディアを得た時は、モチベーションも沸くものかもしれません。

変わった曲なので、リスナーの皆様の好みの分かれるところかと存じますが、これからも様々な試みを曲作りに取り入れていけたら良いな、と思っています。

あるメロディを"Traveling Starry Sky"でも用いた表現とくっつけてみたところ、「銀河は独りぼっち」というキーワードが浮かびました。

おびただしい数の生と死を見守りながら永遠に存在しなければならない銀河の孤独のようなものを思い、少し寂しげな曲想になりました。

宇宙の底知れなさを表現したくて、レコーディングではリバーブのかけ方にこだわり奥行きを追求しましたが、もっと改良の余地があるようにも感じています。より研鑽を重ね、もっと上手にミキシングができるようになりたいです！

最後がくり返しとフェードアウトで終わるのは、宇宙は延々と続くということの比喩でもあります。

私は比較的リズム遊びが好きで、スネアドラムの位置をずらしてみたところ幸運にもメロディにリズムがしっくりきました。

最初は宇宙のロックというテーマで考えていたため、エレキギターの音色を選びましたが上のリズムだとロックというよりはふわふわした宇宙空間でのダンスの雰囲気が合う気がしたので、そういうふうに作りました。

シンセサイザーには宇宙を思わせる音色が沢山あるので選ぶのが楽しかったです。宇宙のサウンドをお楽しみいただければ幸いです！

ロケットベルトをご存知でしょうか？

私はゲームで知り、興味を持ちました！（私は臆病なので実際には挑戦できないと思いますが・・・）

ネット上には滑稽な感じの取り上げ方も見受けられますが、ゲームはとても美しかったですし、スミソニアン博物館の記事からもインスピレーションを得まして、かっこよく感動的な曲を目指したつもりです。

また編曲においては、ゲーム中では人の声をもじったシンセサイザーの音色と弾むようなリズムが効果的に使われていたので、オマージュとして私もそれらの要素を取り入れてみました。

想像上の気ままな空中散歩をお楽しみください！

I arranged this song respecting Gameboy's music. It was a great experience !

This song expresses a space shooting game's world.

At first, the first dark part and the second light part of this song were written as independent songs, so I called them "Shooting 1" , "Shooting 2" temporarily.

For the combination of the above songs, I can express not only the transfer of game phase but also got the idea for interlude, expression of last battle with the strongest enemy, I think it was good.

This kind of title might not be attractive for the person who isn't familiar with science fiction or video games, but my tunes, especially the Game Pop series, are made by strong melodies so that everyone could enjoy them.

I wanted to let this tune cool anyway, so I tried layering the synthesizer tones to make intensity, for example, I layered the bass tone with an organ tone, or the clarinet tone with two different electric tones, and so on.

I think this tune is one of the coolest tunes in my music, so I want to recommend it to the listeners who like cool tunes!

I tried to express futuristic cities as a concept, they are treated by an animation, a video game, a movie, or an exposition, I think.

We can see charming things called futuristic design in architecture, vehicles, appliances, etc.

I like imagining a futuristic city of mine. Don't you feel your city is attractive?

I imagined a world where we fly in a starry sky by some vehicle.

There is a scene where a lot of stars surround us, so I also recommend you to listen to this song with headphones or with surroundings where you can turn up the volume !

Sweet Forest

Here, the title word 'sweet' means 'gentle'.

At first, I got the phrase beginning at 01 : 05 and I felt "It's a little cute." so I thought that the forest with gentle nature and animals might be an interesting theme of the tune.

The basis of this tune has three parts.

The first part expresses a sense of fall; I tried to write a calm melody.

The second part shows countless lives hidden and crowded in Sweet Forest and they are mysterious; I expressed them by layering three melodies of violins, clarinet, and soprano sax and back chorus of string's section.

I remember that I wrote this tune as the next step of "Game Nostalgia", challenging from 16 bars-song to 32 bars.

It would be good to say that the Game Pop series got started in this tune, so I named it "Game Pop" for a milestone.

Since I got a sentimental feeling from writing "Game Nostalgia" that reminded me of childhood, this kind of feeling is maintained in this tune too, I think.

The synthesizer's tone of the first 32 bars-melody was designed by me as a homage to the video game's sound.

Game Nostalgia

この曲はGame Popの収録曲の中で一番最初に作った曲です。作曲を始めた当初、１６小節の短めの曲を練習で作っていたので、この曲だけGame Popの中でも短めのループ曲となっています。

ゲームボーイやファミコンの音楽のように、一度に音が出せる数に制限のある状態で曲を作るのは素晴らしい体験でした!

シューティングゲームの世界をイメージしています。最初に出てくる暗い曲想の部分と次の明るい曲想の部分は、もともと独立した異なる曲として作っており、「Shooting1」「Shooting2」などと仮タイトルで呼んでいました。

この２つをつなげることで、ゲームの面の移り変わりを表現するばかりでなく、間奏部分で強敵(ラスボス)との戦いを表現するアイディアが浮かんだので、良かったかなと思います。

ここでの 'sweet' は「優しい」の意味です。

最初に1分5秒ごろから出てくるフレーズを思いつき、かわいい感じがしたので、優しい自然や動物たちの森をテーマにしたら面白いのではないかと考えました。

この曲の基礎部分は３つのパートから成ります。最初のパートでは秋めいた感じを表現しており、メロディを穏やかなものにしました。

２つ目のパートは無数の命がSweet Forestに隠れ、ひしめき合っている神秘的な状態を示しています。

ヴァイオリン、クラリネット、ソプラノサックスによる３つのメロディーや弦楽器によるバックコーラスを重ねることでそれらを表現しました。

Game Nostalgiaの１６小節で曲を作る段階から卒業して、初めて３２小節の、ゲーム音楽のサウンドを意識して作った曲なので、記念の意味をこめてアルバムのタイトルでもあるゲームポップと名付けました。

ゲーム音楽の要素を取り入れた曲を作ろうと思った最初の頃は、ノスタルジックな気分で作っていたので、Game Nostalgiaもそうなのですが、"なんとなく懐かしい感じ" が曲想に出たかなと思っています。
